Character Appreciation Post #2

Full Name: Zuzana Novakova

Series:  Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)  Days of Blood & Starlight (...  Night of Cake & Puppets (Da...  Dreams of Gods & Monsters (...

Author: Laini Taylor

Background:  Zuzana has been Karou’s steadfast best friend since the first few pages of Daughter of Smoke & Bone. If you haven’t read the entire series, or maybe you’ve just heard about DoSaB: Zuzana, also called Zuze for short, is not one of those side character friends who exists in the beginning of a series and then disappears halfway through. No way, no how. Zuzana is a force to be reckoned with, and she lets you know it from day one. Zuze doesn’t do much more than wonder what quirky Karou is up to for the first half of the book, and once the angels descend on the world her wondering escalates to some serious worrying. In Days of Blood & Starlight we don’t get as much Zuze time, but that is more than made up for by the novella, Night of Cake & Puppets, which features Zuzana’s quest to win over her beloved violin boy, Mik. And then, in the final tour-de-force of the series, Zuze and Mik play a seriously huge part in the story. And I can’t say anything else, because spoilers and potential tears.

Qualities: Rapid Fairy. Quite Short. Fierce. Puppeteer. Master of wit. Entertainer of chimaera. Lover of a certain violin-boy as well as cake.

“All of this cuteness, it was one of nature’s great bait and switches, because… that wasn’t all there was to Zuzana Nováková. Not even a little bit.
Deciding to take her on was akin to a fish deciding idly to gobble up that pretty light bobbing in the shadows and then–OH GOD THE TEETH THE HORROR!–meeting the anglerfish on the other side.”

“Cake for later, cake as a way of life.”

“I want to build spires in their minds and dance shadows through like marionettes, chased by whispers and hints of the unspeakable.”

“Let me tell you something about me. I love vengeance like normal people love sunsets and long walks on the beach. I eat vengeance with a spoon like it’s honey. In fact, I may not even be a real person, but just a vow of vengeance made flesh.”

Character Appreciation Posts are a blog template thought up by Batool at Batool’s Book Feels. I loved the idea so much, that I just had to join in.  I’ll try to do a weekly CAP on Fridays from here on out, so if you like the idea go ahead and join in and post about your favorite book characters!
