Monday Memories: The Dragon Chronicles

Dragon's Milk (Dragon Chronicles, #1)I read the first book in The Dragon Chronicles series not even knowing that it was a series. I was probably 10 years old. It was a book about a girl who doesn’t fit in, who runs away and raises baby dragons, and becomes a powerful force in the world. There are words like dracling and names like Kaeldra and I was completely enchanted. The first book was published in 1989, just a couple of years after I was born!
I think I read this first book at least 10 times before I discovered there was a sequel, at which point I promptly (had to wait until my next library visit) asked for it at my public library, and read it. And then, many, many years later (like, 2 years ago) I discovered through Goodreads that there is actually a third book! I didn’t like it quite as much as the first, but it was a very good wrap-up of the series, honestly.  Oh, and there’s a 4th book and I don’t know if I’ve read it because the 3rd book was just kind of okay. And I want to maintain the magic of the first book and go back and reread it, if I have time for anything as old as this particular series.
This is a very middle grade fantasy series, and while it is most likely long out of print, I think that everyone who likes fantasy and books with dragons needs to read this. It is classic. It is simple, and magical, and well written. It has romance and adventure, politics and social issues and drama.
And it has baby dragons, people. Read it.

Monday Memories is an original feature/weekly meme created and hosted by Miss Print and the Book Bandit. We created Monday Memories because we both love and collect books and wanted to talk about them. We hope you’ll want to share too.

mondaymemoriesAnyone can join. But please, if you join in the fun, link back to Miss Print and/or the Book Bandit on your own Monday Memories post AND add your name to the Link list included with our posts every week so that everyone can check out other posts! If you don’t have a blog, you can post your thoughts as a comment. And, of course, have fun!
Now that you know how it works, here’s what it is: Monday Memories is super simple. Just take a photo of a book from your personal library (or a library book that’s significant to you, etc.) and talk about why it matters. Is it your first ever signed book? The first book you reviewed on your blog? Whatever it is, write it up in a Monday Memories post and share it.

  1. This sounds like a great series. It also reminds me a bit of Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey so I’d say if you haven’t read that trilogy yet you should give them a try!
