Teen librarianship begins

I am just now finishing up my first week as the new YA Programmer/Librarian at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Public Library. It has been one of the busiest weeks of my life! Besides uncontrollable craziness like my truck completely dying and almost blowing up, the library being a bit short-staffed, and how expensive it is to move from Toledo, OH to Crittenden, KY life has been great.

I love my job. I’ve never been able to say that before.

I jumped right in to the teen programs that are well-established and well-run here, like the twice-weekly Teen Space, the monthly craft programs, and the weekly Chess Club. I’m getting things ready for upcoming programs like Anime Club and the Teen Writing Group. I’m planning new programs for next year, like a Zombie Preparedness seminar and a How to Make a Plushie Mascot craft program, as well as trading card game nights and tournaments.

It’s going to be a great experience here. There are so many awesome opportunities and so many cool teens to work with, the staff here are amazing, and it is always busy. I like that. Crazy, yes, but I do!
